BCS Meetings Today
They discussed 8 and 16 team playoffs. They took those possibilities off the table completely. However, if the conferences are in agreement, there will be a 4 team playoff in college football. If their plan is rejected, then possible other major changes with take place. According to Joe Schad, there will still be some kind of Automatic Qualifying system, but that’s not yet been released. It looks like the BCS is finally heading in the right direction. I suspect after a few years in a 4 team system, there will be a need to expand into something larger. The league is taking baby steps at this time, which is better than going backwards. Boise Stays Put; Big Issues in the Big East
After several months of back and forth and left to right, it seems that Boise State will remain part of the Mountain West Conference for the upcoming academic year. Due to West Virginia leaving for the Big 12, there was a gap in their schedule. Boise will be a part of the Big East in 2013. It costed West Virginia $20 million to get out of the Big East. It would have costed the Big East and/or Boise State $10 million to leave the Mountain West a year early. Boise’s other athletic programs would have gone to the WAC, like they will in 2013. So, instead of grabbing Boise State, it looks like the Big East will bring in Temple to replace West Virginia. This really makes me question the people in charge of the conference. If Temple was the cheaper option, then why didn’t they just get them in the first place instead of flirting with getting Boise out a year early? The conference needs Boise to solidify their conference. It would have been well worth it to give half of that West Virginia money to bring them in. The Big East has only had one team finish in the Top 10 since 2008. Boise State has finished in the top 10 every year since 2008. Potential Boise/Arkansas game next season?
Word on the street is that Arkansas only has 11 confirmed regular season games scheduled for next season. Boise is playing AT Hawaii, and any team that plays AT Hawaii can opt for a 13th regular season game (Which is how they went 14-0 a few seasons back without a conference championship game). Word on the street also says that Jerry Jones would love to host the match up in his big backyard. I’m not sure about the reality of it, but I would like to see it come into reality. Though I’m not going to lie, it will probably be a rough game for the rebuilding Broncos to play an Arkansas team poised to win the SEC West. Let me get this all straight.
The story I learned, when top teams other top teams on the big stage, the games are good and the ratings are better. If West Virginia and Virginia Tech can’t sell the tickets, then who can? The BCS must change in order to survive. Somehow, some way, it will change because ratings AND attendance are wayy down on bowl games, and has been so progressively. La. Bowl Games
They do bring their excitement, despite their irrelevance. About to be a good one on right now. La Tech vs. TCU. Go La Tech! Heisman Results
Over the past few days, I recorded my own Heisman votes based on you guys and friends from facebook/twitter. Here’s the results:
RG3 was the only guy to appear on everyone’s ballot. A Modest Proposal
Boise State’s AD should call up Arizona State and say “Thanks, but no thanks.” Then he should give a call to USC’s AD to set up an exhibition game. 11-1 Boise State vs. 10-2 USC. Sounds a heck of a lot better to me. Besides, who really cares about the Las Vegas Bowl? Not me. VT may lose money, again,on Orange Bowl →
Heisman Voting
If I can get enough people, I would like to do my own Heisman Voting on here, based on you guys. I’ll take 5 names. Your #1 guy will get 5 points, and your #5 guy will get 1 point. So answer me here or reblog with your answer; whatever you want to do. So, who deserves the Heisman? |
